CHIC WEDDING IN MYKONOS
AT KALESMA
Tucked away on one of Greece’s most beautiful islands, you’ll find the privately owned Kalesma, where a dream wedding in Mykonos will effortlessly unfold. A stylish and modern sanctuary for couples to relax and unwind at, this decadent resort is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, not to mention the impeccable service you’ll experience throughout.
The word ‘Kalesma’ actually means ‘inviting’ in the Greek language, which is something that the team at this stunning Mykonos wedding venue embrace throughout their 5* boutique hotel.
Spread out over 5-acres, with panoramic views across the Aegean Sea, Kalesma becomes a home-from-home, sprinkled with all the little luxuries that soon-to-be newlyweds deserve. A juxtaposition of contemporary design and traditional influences, Kalesma has the rare ability to be sumptuous, without pretention. I’m sure you’ll agree, it comes as no surprise to me that Kate and Jordan’s hearts were instantly captured from the very moment, they saw it.
When the morning of their wedding in Mykonos arrived, the bridal team were getting ready in one of Kalesma’s exquisite suites, with the glam squad on hand to ensure the ladies were aisle ready. The incredible team at the hotel prepared an in-room brunch buffet and champagne bar for the bride and her bridesmaids – the ultimate way to begin the morning of your wedding day in my opinion.
The bride-to-be looked an utter vision in the off-the-shoulder ‘Naomi’ gown by Anne Barge, wearing her hair down in glossy ‘Hollywood’ style locks. Bridesmaids wore stunning silk gowns, looking gorgeous as they accompanied Kate down the aisle.
When it came to styling Kate and Jordan’s wedding in Mykonos, I collaborated with the couple to create something totally unique. We designed every element from scratch, from the furniture to the little details. We curated a ‘contemporary chic’ vibe with a Mykonian aesthetic that looked like something out of an art installation. For the ceremony, we particularly focused on the modern interpretation, embracing the sophisticated feel of Kalesma.
As a luxury wedding planner, I recommend allowing your overall wedding style and ceremony location to lead the way for your choice of materials – such as natural materials in neutral palettes (like wood or stone) for earthy-inspired celebrations.
Kate & Jordan
“We so loved working with you – so sad it’s over, but definitely more of a “see you around”. Thank you so much for your incredible work and talent – it was the best week of our lives. We still can’t believe that was our wedding…”
If you’re going down the route of a minimalist chic celebration, I suggest keeping the styling simple and modern. From black wooden stools to a chuppah made from black metal for an industrial element, and floral design that looks wildly romantic and endlessly organic. The type of plants and flowers which grow on the island and melt into the backyard of Kalesma.
If you want to create your very own fashion runway show for your aisle space, I adore the idea of styling your ceremony with geometric rows – it’s something totally different and you won’t see any other celebration doing the same.
Guests who began arriving were able to enjoy cocktail hour, including Litchi Hugo (which consists of prosecco, litchi syrup and a top-up of grapefruit soda). Kate and Jordan’s vows were truly breathtaking – they were so natural and heartfelt that I had tears in my eyes. The groom is an author in LA and it shows – his words were wonderfully romantic.
The ceremony took place at Kalesma´s backyard, adjacent to the hotel restaurant. Upon the announcement of ‘husband and wife’, the violins began to play. Following that, staff offered friends and family a mouth-watering canapé selection to tuck into. Including Leek & Feta Cheese Mini Tars, Bruschetta, Crispy Zucchini Flowers & Rice, and Roast Octopus & Spicy Sausage Brochettes.
Guests were left in awe of the décor and styling we had created for Kate and Jordan’s wedding in Kalesma, with suspended clouds of floating blooms offering a statement focal point for their dinner space. The floral oasis worked perfectly with the aesthetic of the wedding venue, in natural beige shades and a hint of lavender hanging above the guests’ heads.
Using a special light installation and design, we made the clouds illuminate over the tables, adding atmosphere and an envy-inducing style to their wedding dinner.
Sculptural blooms also adorned the tables, acting as centerpieces alongside a beige stone and silver table number sign. Flickering and glowing candles were dotted around the venue, adding warmth and romance to the space. Hand crafted, sand-coloured menus that matched the mirror name cards and beige linen napkins, which were finished with a chic black edge.
As guests began their dining experience, they were treated to a Greek family style menu that combined traditional specialities with modern cuisine. Kalesma boasts a huge selection of dining options, where the executive chef will masterfully combine the authentic flavours that Greece has to offer.
As the sun set and the night drew in, we wanted to create a wow-factor room which would surprise both the newlyweds and their guests. We worked with an epic team of suppliers to transform the inside restaurant at Kalesma, creating a total mirror-covered party room that went down an absolute storm.
It was decorated with the same flower clouds and a mirror-dancing floor that reflected in different colour. The mirror DJ booth also featured a beautiful organic-shaped floral installation, seamlessly tying the décor and theme together. As a luxury wedding designer, it is my goal for every wedding to create ambiance and atmosphere, so that the guests and the couple forget everything around them and instead, focus on the senses and magic.
Violinsts appeared once again with their version of ‘We Found Love’, accompanying vibrant firework entertainment from the sea on a boat. Kate and Jordan had just finished their first dance to ‘Hard to Concentrate’ by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. But the dancing didn’t end there – guests witnessed the newlyweds cutting the cake (a divine lavender naked buttercream cake and then the after-party began! The wording on the cake said ‘Ride or Die’ – which captured the essence of chemistry and love that Kate and Jordan shared for one another.
It was such a joy to work with Kate and Jordan to curate their incredible wedding in Mykonos – the pleasure was all ours.
